Y’all, I’ve obviously been watching too much Peg Cat, because this is the part that I want to yell, “I am tttoootalllllyyy freaking out!“- all you mamas know what I’m talking about.
But for real though, I really am. I have to get my wisdom teeth cut out Friday. Not pulled, not just one, but all four have to be CUT out. Impacted and infected. Gross.
I’m not exaggerating when I say that I’m a little bit nervous.
I don’t know if it’s the fact that I won’t be able to eat all the foods, or if I may say crazy stuff when I come to, or if it’s just because I’ll be put under for who knows how long while another human being cuts out all my teeth and I don’t know what’s happening or if I’ll ever wake up again. Kidding. Maybe?
But really, I am little afraid I might starve to death. I’m a foodie and a snacker- now I’m wondering how I’m gonna make it through it.
When I’m only able to eat soft foods that are all mashed or blended, where’s the texture? Where’s the flavor? I’m sure eating soft foods only gets old really fast.
UPDATE: I made it through. I asked for my teeth and I cried on the way home (who knows why?), but I made it! Don’t forget to leave a comment about your wisdom teeth removal story!
So, I did a little digging, and I’ve prepared a massive list of all the soft foods that you’ll be able to enjoy! So whether you’re on a soft food diet, have had oral surgery, or are like me and getting your wisdom teeth taken out- you’ll want to read this.
We’ve got everything from fresh to cooked, and have even thrown some yummy pressure cooker recipes in there too! I mean, who wants to spend all day in the kitchen when you’ve just had oral surgery?

Additional Tip?
This is an amazing time to think about investing in a pressure cooker!
Why do I say that? I absolutely love my pressure cooker. It is a time saver in the kitchen and makes cooking so much easier when I don’t feel like doing it.
I no longer have to stand over and monitor a pot, I don’t have to worry about heating up my house, and there are so many one-pot meals, which means fewer dishes.
Also, if you haven’t got one already, a high powered blender or food processor like Ninja or Vitamix is an amazing addition to your kitchen arsenal- especially for times like this.
I use my Ninja blender ALL the time to make smoothies and slushes, blend soups, and easily chop veggies. Time-saver = lifesaver for this mama.
If you’re a smaller family, this is my favorite budget pressure cooker.
Any time that you see it under $60, know that you’re getting a good deal!
For larger families, I absolutely suggest the Instant Pot 8 Quart! It’s a perfect size!
I paid over $100 for mine when they first debuted, but if you can find it for under $80, that’s amazing!

Great ideas! I was stumped, trying to think of non-sweet foods after tongue surgery that I can drink or slurp. I can’t put a spoon in my mouth because my tongue swollen and I gag. Tried blending a can of lentil soup today, and it was delicious! Texture of blended chicken noodle soup was weird. Looking for black bean soup next. Thanks again for a great article!
I see tomato soup on the list and I would say stay far away from tomatoes/tomato sauce and anything acidic in that way. When I had my wisdom teeth pulled my mouth was sore, but fine, the first 3-4 days. On the 4th day I ate some tomato sauce and the next 4 days were torture – the raw edges just burned and burned and there wasn’t anything that took that away.
Thanks for the ideas! My 25 year old son just had all 4 out. Yesterday was day 3 and he was craving meat! He had some tofu with a little soy sauce, cut up small/mashed. And I cooked pasta waaay past al la dente (about twice as long) and made chicken noodle soup, minus the chicken. . . so noodle soup. He felt satisfied after eating that.
Just got my wisdom teeth removed and I’ve been living on purely mashed potatoes jello and pudding it’s really nice to know there are more options I just couldn’t think of
Agreed.. I had my bottom too cut out because they were growing in sideways., on part of the side was showing in other words they were deeply impacted. All I’ve had today was mashed potatoes and my stomach is still growling at 10:55pm. I knew this couldn’t be life.. Thank you.
Hello just had all 4 pulled out and I was terrified before during and after! Now day 3 of recovering and I am only eating (swallowing really) cream of wheat, chicken broth, pudding, jello, ice cream -and all I want to eat is a big chicken sandwich lol. I definitely need to broaden my intake so thank you for the list.
This post was so so helpful for me! I haven’t had any oral surgery lately, but I had an allergic reaction to a medication I took on Monday (it is currently the following Saturday). The reaction is leaving me with awful, lingering mouth sores that make talking and eating extremely painful. I’ve been surviving on Ramen and cold fettuccine Alfredo. It’s time for a grocery run, and this list is full of great, nutritious ideas for food that won’t hurt my mouth even more! Thank you!
Love the ideas and ambition but most of these things will not be eaten in the first week ESPECIALLY if you’re getting all four taken out. Anything creamy, nothing chunky like green beans, baked potatoes and chicken noodle soup. Remember, you need to actually chew those things unless you swallow them whole and in that case, kudos to you. Hope your surgery went well! Mine, my teeth kept chipping so they had to drill them down, chip, drill, chip…it too an hour of yanking. Turns out I have strong teeth. You don’t want strong teeth in a situation like this tho.
Good tips. However, eggs are not dairy. (I’m dairy-free and have to share this info all the time haha)
I am sure this is late too and you already had your done. But I just had mine done yesterday all 4 and it was nothing. I was freaked out like you and had already canceled on them several times before so I had to not chicken out this time. Now I don’t why I canceled the first few times. It was nothing. They knocked be out before novacane and stuff. Woke up better then when I have surgery in the hospital. The only thing that drove me nuts it’s being so numb in the face, thank god that wore off. Now to eat something. Thanks for the list
I’m probably too late on this, so if you’ve had them out, I hope that it went so well, even better than you thought!
If you haven’t yet, I just had mine out this morning, and I was absolutely terrified of every aspect. In addition, I’m so scared of needles, so I was worried about the IV, and I was afraid I’d say something I would regret under the drugs. Also, I too had to have all four cut out, and it went totally fine.
If you’re afraid of needles, I would definitely suggest asking for laughing gas before the IV and ask to be allowed to listen to music through earbuds as it’s kicking in and while they put the IV in. It started working pretty fast, and it made me feel heavy, relaxed, and calm. The music gave me something to focus on other than the IV; I didn’t watch her put it in, and it went totally fine. The anesthesia kicked in pretty fast, probably about 30-60 seconds and I was out. If you’re worried about saying crazy things, I’ve heard that fighting the drugs can lead to being more loopy, but just relaxing leads to less loopiness.
Either way, once I woke up, I didn’t say anything crazy st all. I mostly just cried (lol) and even though I felt really drugged I was generally aware of what I was saying and of what was going on.
This was my first legit medical procedure and I was severely anxious, almost to the point of a few full blown anxiety attacks, but it’s been going really well so far and I’m sure yours will too!
(Sorry for this long comment lol) Finally is like to say that I liked your article about what to eat and it’s given me lots of ideas for the next few days, and hope that I won’t just be eating potatoes, puddings, and smoothies. Thank you!
When I read this I thought that I had wrote this! This was me to a T! This is now my day 3 and I have been eating a variety of baby foods, puddings, jell-o, and potatoes. This list made me happy because I didn’t know you could eat cottage cheese!
