10 Scriptures for Overcoming Fear

You can never fail when you’re using God’s word as a marker to live by! And print our scripture printables to hang around your house too to serve as a constant reminder.

As Christians, fear should not be a part of our lives. So, if you’re struggling with fear as a Christian, how do you overcome that fear?

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. – 2 Timothy 1:7

When you feel fear grip your life, remember that Christ overcame the world, and you can overcome too by the blood of The Lamb and by the word of your testimony!

Speak peace over your life. Speak it as you have it at that moment. And watch as the Holy Ghost pours out that peace over you because we testify of the peace of God.

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. – Isaiah 41:10

Fear is a liar but God is THE truth! When He says He is with you, you can be confident that He is! He said He would never leave you, nor forsake you- so why should we be troubled?

If you could physically see God standing next to you at all times, wouldn’t that be empowering! Although we can’t, you can still find peace in knowing that He is there- despite not being able to see Him.

How do we know that? Because He said so.

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. – 1 John 4:18

We love because He first loved us. God is love. He who loves is born of God. But if we God, and God is love, and we share love, then we cannot fear.

Fear is the opposite of love. Fear is tormenting, binding, afflicting. Love is joy, peace, goodness.

We can have peace through the love that was shown to us, is in us, and flows through us.

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? – Psalms 27:1

With God on our side, there is nothing that we should fear. He is my light, my salvation, my everything!

Most of the time, fear consumes us when we are in darkness. Whether that be actual physical darkness or just spiritual darkness- but Christ is the light that we live in.

Because of His sacrifice, we live in the light. So have faith in that sacrifice and step out of the darkness that fear thrives in and live in the glorious light that is the Gospel!

What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me. – Psalms 56:3-4

When we trust in the promises of God, we know that there is no fear that can reign above Him.

Trust that God is alive, He is on the throne, and He abides faithful to shine the light of His wondrous works and promises on you. When we put our trust in the Father, there is nothing to fear because His way is perfect.

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. – Romans 8:15

When a child is afraid, they can run to the comforting, strong, able, arms of their father. We are God’s children. Through the sacrifice of Christ, He adopted us into His lineage.

We are His children and we can find comfort in His arms and through His Spirit.

Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this [will] I [be] confident. – Psalms 27:3

What a peace it brings to know that God is fighting for us! No matter what comes against us, He is able to overcome it. When we live in Him, we have that same overcoming spirit, that same confidence, that same authority!

Live in the knowledge of Christ, in His Word, and by His Spirit and you’ll find out that He is more than enough!

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. – Psalms 23:4

Even in the darkest times of our lives, in the very face of hell and death, we don’t have to fear! God is with us and He fully equips us to be soldiers warring for His kingdom!

We have no want or need of the tools of this life because God’s power and His authority are enough.

Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. – Deuteronomy 31:6

woman with her hand to her mouth looking worry, filled with fear

This is not just a scripture or a sentence, this is a command. God commands us to be strong! He tells us that there is nothing to fear because He is with us and will not fail!

If that doesn’t stir you, nothing will.

I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. – Psalms 34:4

When we can’t overcome dread, we have a God who can! He didn’t say we would never be fearful, but He did say that when we are that He will deliver us!

Live in this promise. When you fear, pray, believe, and trust. He will deliver you by His mighty hand and through the peace of His loving arms.
