We’re moving into the introduction of currency in our mathematics workbook, and this is something that is completely new our little student. We’ve poked around with money before, but never fully introduced it like other activities or studies. So in hopes to get a head start, I came up with this 11-page Elementary Coin Activities Printable Pack that is perfect for introducing coins to the beginner!

According to studies, it’s good to introduce money to kids at a young age. When children understand the value of money, they are able to consider the weight of spending it. Which is also why chores and allowances help develop responsibility. Don’t forget to check out our homemaking “chore chart’ for moms!

But these studies also say to start introducing coins at age 2, am I the only one who thinks that’s crazy? My two-year-old is only interested in trains and dirt. If I gave him a penny, he’d probably try to eat it. I don’t think that would be very helpful.

In my opinion, a slow intro with coins around 3-4, and more in-depth coin activities as the child grows in understanding, is perfectly acceptable. But whatever homeschooling you’re doing, I’m sure you’re doing it just right mama. Don’t sweat the small stuff.
