I am a bug magnet, a serious bug magnet. I don’t know if it has something to do with the fact that I’m so white from my vitiligo, or maybe it’s something to do with my thyroid? I did hear on the news that there can be something in your blood that can attract them to you; maybe that’s it.

Whatever it is, it isn’t fun. If there’s a bug outside, it’s gonna find me and bite me. So, when a friend told me that she was using a chemical free (non-toxic) bug spray with essential oils, I knew it was right up my ally to try.

Now that we’re sweat-deep into the Louisiana summer, I’ll have a chance to give it a good go.  It’s ridiculously hot, which draws an insane amount of mosquitos, gnats, flies, and so many other irritating little creatures. If you’re an avid oiler, it shouldn’t take very much to throw this together.

It may be that I’ve been oiling for years now, and I may be a little crunchy, but I already had all of the ingredients at home so it literally took minutes to throw together. Another thing I like is that it was so inexpensive, that it’s nearly guilt-free. So we’ve got a non-toxic bug spray with essential oils that smells amazing and doesn’t break the bank.

I know that you’re thinking about how much a full bottle of oils cost, but I can tell you that there are some bottles of oils that I have had for YEARS and they still aren’t empty. The best thing about Young Living is that the oils are so concentrated that I don’t need very many to do anything. Making my oils last so much longer, and my dollar goes further.

I know it get’s kind of old, me telling you all the time that I ONLY use Young Living Oils. Well, it’s the truth, and I just want to be honest. Please, for the love of Jesus Christ, do not buy oils from Amazon. Or Walmart, or Whole Foods, or any store in general. Do the research and be safe with your oil usage.

But I’m not gonna go all BUY MY OILS on you. I’d absolutely love for you to join my team, but if you know someone who sells oils, you’re absolutely fine with going with the exclusive essential oil brand of your choice. I won’t judge (maybe).

Anyways, I know you’re here for that Non-Toxic Bug Spray with Essential Oils, so I’ll go ahead and get off my soapbox so I can share it with you.

Ingredients:

  • Small Glass Spray Bottle
  • Distilled Water
  • Witch Hazel (without alcohol)
  • Citronella Essential Oil
  • Peppermint Essential Oil
  • Rosemary Essential Oil
  • Lavender Essential Oil

If you don’t know someone who sells Young Living, you can buy your oils here!

Directions:

  • In the bottom of your glass bottle, add a small pinch of salt. The salt will dissolve when you add the liquids and help distribute your oils equally into the water.
  • Add 10 drops of each essential oil.
  • Fill your glass bottle halfway with distilled water and the rest of the way with witch hazel. I suggest this size glass bottle, but you can adjust your essential oils to your size bottle.
  • Shake well and spray on clothes every 1-2 hours that you’re outside.

TIPS: You won’t need to spray it on your skin, but it is safe to spray directly on the skin. I do suggest that you perform a “patch test” on a small area of skin to be sure that it does not irritate. Oils are safe, but everyone’s body responds to them differently.
