After 3 babies, well almost 3- we’re still in the third trimester with the third, I can tell you that I chose some silly things to put on my baby registry for number one. There’s definitely a few things that I could have gone without and some things that were just a waste of money.

But we all learn from our mistakes and keep going on, right? Hopefully, if you listen, I’ll save you from wasting some time and money by sharing these baby registry must-haves and even some baby registry must-skips.

Baby Registry Must-Haves

There are a few things that you absolutely must get and are not optional, a car seat and stroller are at the top of the list. Next, you’ll need some sort of bed (crib, co-sleeper, bassinet, pack-n-play). Diapers and wipes (disposable or cloth), toiletries, feeding items, clothes. But what else do you need?

Bouncer/Swing

I’m not really sure who was the inventor of the bouncer/swing combo, but God bless them. Some babies are easy, and you may never use this thing, but don’t chance it. Your arms will need a break, your mind will need a break, things will need to get done and you’ll want to lay a fussy baby down somewhere for them to be comforted. Do it and be blessed.

Baby Monitor

I am so thankful that the age we live in has video monitors. The VTech VM5251 5” Digital Video Baby Monitor with Full-Color and Automatic Night Vision, White is amazing! With coverage up to 1,000 feet of range, 9 sound activation modes, automatic infrared night vision, and like 100 other components, the VM5251 is definitely a top choice video baby monitor.

Baby Carrier

I am a huge advocate for babywearing, but not just using any kind of carrier. Please, if you plan to wear, do your research. Babywearing is an amazing bonding experience for you and baby, plus a great way to be hands-free! There are a number of great baby carriers on the market, but make sure that you get an ergonomic carrier that will keep your baby’s growing limbs in a safe position!

Swaddling Blanket

Swaddling is proven to have a number of different benefits. It’s great to have a light swaddling blanket, and one that may be a little heavier during winter months, to make sure that your baby always feels safe, secure and warm. Forget about all those other fancy blankets and cutesy ones, get one that is newborn safe and functional.

High Chair

Let me save you some heartache and tell you, don’t opt for the fancy high chair. Get one that is functional and space saving. Don’t get the cloth and get a design that works for your family. Explore your options. Now, they have so many options for whatever your budget and whatever your desired functions. But my biggest opinion, cloth gets dirty too easy; go for the easy clean and thank me later.

Humidifier

No matter if it’s the summer or the winter, those sniffles can come about at any time (which is why I love having the VM5251 to keep my eyes on the baby at all times). I love keeping a cool midst humidifier handy to make sure the rooms, especially where baby sleeps, don’t get too dry. Did I mention that the VTech VM5251 also comes in handy with its room temperature sensor? It does!

Rocker/Glider

There’s nothing better than spending time rocking a baby, except when you have to do that while standing because you forgot to get a rocker. Plus, during those night feedings, you’ll want a spot that is comfy and practical. If you already have a rocker/recliner then you’re great. But don’t skimp out on this when looking into your baby registry must-haves.

Baby Registry Must-Skips

You may want these, you may even think that you need them. But ask any experienced mama, and they’ll tell you how much of a waste they are. Once you really get into motherhood, they only take up space and serve no real purpose. You’ll wish you spent the money elsewhere.

Don’t get a wipe warmer, just hold a wipe in your hands for a few seconds and it’ll be fine. A diaper pail? Please. You’re gonna have so much trash anyways, just stick it in the trashcan. If it’s a stinker, go with a plastic bag before you toss.

Baby shoes are so cute, but 9/10 times you won’t be using them. Just skip it. Don’t opt for the changing table. Look, in all honesty, you’ll be changing that baby anywhere that is easy; a bed, floor, couch. You won’t travel to the changing station every time you change a diaper. Which will be A LOT.

If you can only get one thing off of our baby registry must-haves list, then I suggest going with the VTech Infant Monitor with Camera and you can get it easily from your local Target or even at Target.com! Most of these other items can be bought second hand and won’t provide the peace of mind that the VM5251 infant monitor can give.

VTech is a great brand that has designed an assortment of baby monitors that allow parents to choose the best unit for their style based on their needs. VTech offers versatility, which is exactly what the growing family should expect.

What things have you put on your baby registry must-haves list, and which ones have you opted out for?

Great round-up! I’m with you on the VTech baby monitor and a baby carrier, both were my go-to. Thanks for sharing!
